Portland HIgh School senior Joe Esposito is the winner of the 45th Fitzpatrick Trophy, to top award given in Maine high school football.

Esposito rushed for over 1,600 yards and scored 28 touchdowns. He also was in on 95 tackles as a linebacker. He was the Class A North player of the year.

The other finalists for the award were Brunswick's Will Bessey and Thornton Academy's Austin McCrum.

The award is named after James J. Fitzpatrick, a longtime teacher and coach at Portland HS who starred as a college player at Boston College.

NOTE:  Next Saturday the Gaziano Award will be announced. This honor goes to Maine top high school offensive and defensive linemen.
