Minnesota gets the overall #1 seed but 5 of the 16 teams in the NCAA Tournament field come from Hockey East. That's the most of any college hockey conference. Boston College gets one of the four #1 seeds.

The other HE teams include UMass Lowell, Providence, Vermont and Notre Dame.

One of the interesting first round matchups is BC against the Denver Pioneers. DU is coached by the captain of UMaine's national championship team from 1992-93, Jim Montgomery. In his first season as head coach, his Pioneers won the NCHC tournament and got the automatic NCAA bid.
