Former UMaine Black Bear hockey star Gustav Nyquist has signed a new two year $1.9 million dollar contract with the Detroit Red Wings. Nyquist played in 22 NHL games during the season and made 14 appearances in the playoffs.

Nyquist turns 24 next month and was drafted by Detroit in the 4th round back in 2008. He spent three seasons with the Black Bears and has played for Detroit's Grand Rapids Griffins AHL team.

The Detroit Free Press also reports that a woman has been arrested for a scheme that involved stolen property - property that includes the puck from Nyquist's first goal scored as a Red Wing. Apparently the puck and other items were stolen from a storage facility in Kent County Michigan. This woman and others then auctioned off these items.

Detectives recovered the puck and have returned it to Nyquist.
