Dennis "Red" Gendron has been offered the UMaine Black Bear hockey coaching job according to several sources, including College Hockey News. A press conference on an announcement could be as early as Tuesday.

Gendron was an assistant coach under Shawn Walsh for three years, including the 1992-93 season when Maine won the national championship.

He has been the Yale associate head coach for the past two years. Yale won the national title last month.

Gendron, who is 55-years-old, has been a coach in the AHL and an assistant with the NHL's New Jersey Devils. He has also coached in the USHL.

If he becomes the UMaine coach, it would be his first head coaching collegiate job.
