The Black Bears moved on to the championship round after beating Binghamton in an elimination game on Friday afternoon.
Maine won the contest versus the host school by a score of 2-1 and will now play on Saturday afternoon for a chance to move to the NCAA Tournament. Molly Flowers pitched the contest and picked up the win after pitching a game earlier that day against Albany. Meghan Royle hit a home run early in the contest to versus Binghamton to provide enough offense to send Maine forward. The Black Bears will have to win twice on Saturday against Albany to clinch the conference title.
In the earlier game UMaine struggled out of the gate in the winner’s bracket match-up, as starter Molly Flowers allowed two runs in the third, both scoring by way of an error committed in the field. The Great Danes put up three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding 8-0 lead and a chance to end the game after the sixth inning. UMaine got a home run by Alyssa Derrick in the bottom of the sixth to continue the game. The blast was her 14th of the season and pushed the game into the seventh inning where Albany would close the door.
