Looking closer to the Patriots team we knew from the first 10 weeks of the season, New England used their wide open offense to beat Kansas City 27-20 in the divisional playoffs. The win puts the Patriots in the AFC Championship for a record tying 5th straight year and will play the winner of Sunday night’s Denver Pittsburgh game.

Tom Brady seemed to be back in his comfort zone with the return of wide receiver Julian Edelman to the lineup following a fractured ankle that cost him the final 6 games of the season.

Brady threw for 302 yards with 100 of those yards going to Edelman who had 10 receptions. Tight end Rob Gronkowski who missed most of the practices this week with knee and back issues caught 2 touchdowns and finished with 7 catches for 83 yards.

The Pats scored on their first possession of the game when Brady hit Gronk from 10 yards out. They would eventually build a 21-6 lead in the first quarter when Gronk caught his second score.

It wasn’t all good news for the Patriots who this year can’t seem to finish a game without injuries. This time they came on the defensive side of the ball as linebackers Jamie Collins (back), Jerod Mayo (shoulder) and Chandler Jones (knee) all left the game and did not return.
