Danny Ainge, the general manager and President of Basketball Operations with the Boston Celtics, met with the media on Wednesday and answered some questions about possible plans for the franchise this summer.

Optimism about this off-season is at record levels with multiple first round picks (including the Brooklyn Nets’ early selection), a lot of cap room available, and the possibility of big names joining the core of a squad that has made the playoffs in back to back seasons.

Some pundits think that Ainge could pull the trigger this off-season to acquire star players like he did in 2007.  That year he was able to lure both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to Beantown to join with Paul Pierce. “I’m not sure we have a Paul Pierce on our roster, but I do think we have a lot more things to trade, a lot more things to move,” said Ainge when asked if there was a possibility of a ’07 repeat. Kevin Durant is one of the marque free agents that Boston may target in the summer months, but a lot of fans are even more excited about the possibility getting a top pick in June’s draft.  Isaiah Thomas will be the Celtics’ representative during the May 17th draft lottery.

We’ll see what Boston and Danny Ainge can pull off this off-season as fans patiently wait with anticipation on things to come.

The Celtics also worked out Sheldon McClellan (Miami), Dorian Finney (Florida), Marcus Georges Hunt (Georgia Tech), Mike Tobey (Virginia), Quincy Ford (Northeastern), and America East’s own Jameel Warney (Stony Brook) on Wednesday in advance of the draft.
