The Boston Red Sox opted not to offer a contract to reliever Andrew Bailey and as a result of the move Bailey becomes a free agent. Same thing with often injured outfielder Ryan Kalish.

The players and the Sox still could reach an agreement on a contract but in the case of Bailey, the team did not want to pay an arbitration amount likely to be $4-million-dollars. Bailey is coming off arm surgery and will not likely pitch until mid-season.

Junichi Tazawa, Mike Carp, Franklin Morales, Andrew Miller and Burke Badenhop were offered contracts and are considered signed. If they can't come to an agreement a independent arbiter would decide their pay.

The Red Sox have 38 players currently on their 40-man roster.
