Auditorium Shootaround For Hoops Hall of Fame
Bill Burney sat in during the “The Morning Pitch” to talk about the Last ShootAround event at the Bangor Auditorium scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 16th and 17th.
Back in 1969 Bill Burney was a senior at Cony HS in Augusta and pumped in 53 points in a tournament game against Presque Isle. No one scored more points in an eastern tourney game since.
This weekend, Burney and many other former high school players will take part in one last shootaround at Bangor Auditorium. The event is part of a fundraising effort for the new Maine Basketball Hall of Fame planned for the new Cross Center opening in the fall.
Teams from 1956 to 1975 can shoot around Saturday morning, players from 1975 to 2000 will get a couple of hours of time next, then teams from 2000 through 2013 will get a turn.
On Sunday, anyone who wants to come in a shoot around “the old barn on Dutton Street” cane do so. Admission is $5 or a family for $10.
