On Wednesday Bangor's James F. Doughty School gymnasium will have a new name. It will be known as the Robert Kelley Gymnasium, in honor of longtime teacher and coach Bob Kelley.

Kelley was a teacher at the Doughty School for 29 years and then spent another 13 years teaching at Bangor High School.

He began coaching basketball, baseball, soccer and intramurals at Doughty (known as Fifth Street Junior High School) in 1959.

Kelley went on to coach Bangor varsity baseball for 32 years, winning 15 East titles and 8 state titles.

The official naming ceremony is set for Wednesday.
