The Coffee News Bangor Comrades are Maine American Legion baseball champions for a third time in four years. Sunday's 9-4 win over South Portland sends the Comrades to the Northeast Regional in Massachusetts later this week.

In the winner-take-all matchup vs South Portland, Comrades pitcher Jesse Colford worked 7.2 innings, struck out 13 while giving up just three runs. Colford was named the State Tourney MVP.

The Bangor offense entered the title game with a .203 team batting average but on this day, the Comrades pounded out 12 hits to produce nine runs. They also left 17 runners on base.

Tyler Parke reached base five time and scored four runs.

Ethan Stoodard four RBI, including a two-run home run.

Noah Missbrenner was on base five times with three hits and two walks.

Coffee News advances to the regional with an 18-6 record. Yankee Ford of South Portland finishes 18-8.

The Comrades play Vermont at 9am Wednesday in the first round of the Northeast Regional.
