Former Bangor HS standout swimmer Emma Waddell wins the national championship in the 50 Freestyle event at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Shenadoah,Texas.

Her winning time was 22:69, a new meet record.

Waddell, a junior, competes for Williams College in Massachusetts. Last month she was named NESCAC Swimmer of the Year for winning the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly events for the third consecutive year. She also was part of the Williams relay team that won three events. The Ephs won their fourth straight NESCAC championship.

Over the four-day NCAA championships that began today, Waddell will compete in eight events...

Wednesday/March 15th: The 50 Freestyle (Waddell wins) and the 200 Medley Relay (Williams team finished 3rd)

Thursday/March 16th: The 100 Butterfly (Waddell #1 seed), 400 Medley Relay (Williams team seeded #1) and the 200 Free Relay (Williams team seeded #4)

Friday/March 17th: 800 Free Relay (Williams team seeded #5)

Saturday/March 18th: 100 Freestyle (Waddell #1 seed) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (Williams team seeded #2)
