Bar Harbor House Destroyed By Fire
A house located at 219 Bay View Drive in Bar Harbor was destroyed on Friday morning, Aug. 5 despite the efforts of seven fire departments.
According to the Mount Desert Islander, the initial call came in to the Bar Harbor Fire Department just before 9:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, there was just one wall standing.
The house was located approximately 600 yards off Bay View Drive, down a hill. The driveway was just a dirt/grass path. According to Bar Harbor Fire Department Chief Matt Bartlett firefighters had to run six lengths of hose from Bay View Drive down the dirt driveway to fight the fire. Crews needed to get water from King's Creek.
As of 12:15 p.m., the fire had been completely extinguished but Chief Bartlett thought they would have to come back this afternoon to soak down the debris to prevent any hot spots from flaring up.
Crews from Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Tremont, Southwest Harbor, Ellsworth, Northeast Harbor and Trenton were on scene to fight the fire.
No one was in the house at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.
