Former UMaine Black Bear Samantha Baranowski was announced to be the new assistant coach for the women’s basketball program.

Head Coach Richard Barron announced the hiring of Baranowski to the assistant role on Tuesday morning and she will focus on working with the forwards and centers on the team as part of her coaching duties.  Baranowski played four seasons for the program and graduated in 2012.  She averaged 674 points and 433 rebounds during her 112 game career in Orono.

"I'm excited for this opportunity to rejoin the women's basketball program at UMaine," said Baranowski via a statement released by the program. "Personally, I'm happy to be back in a place that is a second home to me. I'm looking forward to my new role as well as preparing for next season and continuing the strong tradition of UMaine women's basketball."

Barron coached Baranowksi for one season during the 2011-12 campaign, and the former Black Bear forward recently played overseas in Germany, winning the 2DBBL North title with TK Hannover this past season.
