Bard Claimed By Cubs

Leave it to Theo Epstein. His Chicago Cubs have claimed Sox pitcher Daniel Bard. That means he is a Cubbie now – they pay the remainder of his salary this year and own the right to offer him arbitration. The Sox get no compensation.

The Red Sox opted to put Bard of waivers and used that 40-man roster spot for Quinten Berry, who is being used as a spare outfielder.

Bard has had control problems for the past two years and perhaps a change of scene from Fenway to Wrigley will do him good.
