When a football teams has problems producing on offense, the defense is asked to carry a bigger load. Defensive end Trevor Bates did his part Saturday to help the Bears win.Maine got back in the win column with a 23-10 conference victory over Stony Brook at Alfond Stadium. Once again the Bears offense was less than impressive in the first half and went into the locker room at the break trailing 10-3.

Quarterback Dan Collins was replaced by sophomore Drew Belcher who seemed to provide a little more energy as they outscored the Seawolves 20-0 over the final two quarters.

Defensive end Trevor Bates was a shining star for Maine collecting 7 tackles including 2 for a loss, a sack and returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown in the 4th quarter.Belcher finished as the leading rusher with 79 yards and a touchdown, plus threw for another 109 yards.
