After playing 26 road games the UMaine baseball team finally got to play at Mahaney Diamond in Orono Saturday afternoon and celebrated by sweeping a conference twinbill over Albany 10-2 and 4-1.

The wins are important because the America East Conference Tournament will be played at Mahaney Diamond in late May. The Black Bears want to be one of the teams in the field. They are 3-2 AE and 7-19 overall.

Game 1:  UMaine 10  Albany 2   Jonathan Bennett doubled in three runs as part of a five-run first inning for the Black Bears. Six other Maine players drove in runs. On the mound, Zach Winn, Connor Johnson and Matt Geoffrion combined to allow just two hits to the Great Danes.

Game 2:  UMaine 4  Albany 1  The Bears again jumped on Albany, scoring two runs in the first inning on a Brandon Vincens hit. John Arel pitched 6.1 of the seven innings, giving up just six hits and one run. He picks up his second win of the spring.

NOTE: The UMaine softball opened its America East play on the road in Hartford Saturday afternoon and swept the Hawks. Annie Kennedy and Molly Flowers combined in the circle for the 5-2 win in game one...Maddie Decker and Alyssa Derrick drove in runs in the 8th inning to gives the Bears a 2-0 win in game two...The Bears are 2-0 AE and 11-14 overall.
