Bears Beat Albany 65-53, 1st Place Tie In AE

The UMaine women's basketball team beat UAlbany 65-53 Sunday afternoon at the Cross Center in Bangor and moved into a first place tie with the Great Danes in America East.

Over 3,000 fans watched the Black Bears win for an 18th consecutive time at home and this gave Maine a piece of first place. Both teams are now 12-1 in AE and have split the season series. There are three games left in the regular season. The Bears are 21-7 overall, the Danes are 21-4.

Two-time conference player of the year Shereesha Richards was held to just eight points.

Sigi Koizar led a balanced Maine attack with 15 points. Lauren Bodine and Liz Wood added 14 each.

In Albany, New York, the UMaine men's team suffered its fifth straight loss, a 108-64 pounding by the Great Danes.

The Bears were outscored 51-29 in the first half and 57-35 in the second half. 10 different Albany players scored points, four the them in double digits.

Maine was led by Issac Vann with 26.

The Bears drop to 4-9 AE, 8-18 overall. The Danes are 10-3 and 21-7.
