On opening night for Husson basketball teams the men came up winners while the women lost at St. Joe's while the UMaine men also came up short on the road.Trevon Butler led the Husson men to an 81-73 win with a game high 24 points. The Eagles closed out the game by scoring the final 10 points. Butler also grabbed 17 rebounds while Raheem Anderson contributed 19 points and 4 steals. Junior Tyler Norris had a career best 18 points in the first start of his college career.

The Husson Women dropped a 79-61 decision to the Monks. The Eagles were hurt by turnovers as they committed 23  in their first game of the season.

Freshman MacKenzie Worcester led three Eagles in double figures with 13 points, Chandler Guerrette added 12 and Vicki McIntyre 10.

The UMaine men got a career high 18 points form Aaron Calixte but it was not enough as the Bears lost to Long Island University 84-79. Maine took a two point lead into the locker room at halftime but could not hold on as the Blackbirds took control and the lead two minutes into the second half.

Freshman Devine Eke had his first career double-double for the Bears with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Maine (0-2) will try for its first win of the season Saturday when they play at Wagner.
