Sox rookie Andrew Benintendi has been place on the disabled list with a sprained left knee. The injury happened in the 7th inning last night when he was trying to avoid a tag by the Rays shortstop and turned his ankle.

Benintendi had a MRI this morning and the full extent of the knee injury is not known.

Sox manager John Farrell said before the game today that 'we're hopeful it's not the last we've seen of him this season. We just have to wait and see what comes out of this...'

Benintendi had provided a spark since coming up from Double-A Portland. He is hitting .324 with a homer and 10 RBI.

Marco Hernandez was recalled from Pawtucket to take his roster spot for now.
