The USM Huskies rode the bat of Chris Bernard in an opening win at the NCAA New England Regional.Bernard hit a 2-run homer and an rbi triple the help propel the Huskies past Worcester State 9-4. Sam Dexter added two hits and an rbi as USM moves into the winners bracket of the eight team double elimination tournament.

Next up for the Huskies is an 8pm game against Tufts on Thursday. The Jumbos beat St. Joe's, the other team from Maine by a 3-1 score.

USM made it to the NCAA national championship game last season, and with last nights win improve to 32-12 on the season.
