Thirteen years ago today, January 22, 2003 the face of the Boston Red Sox changed, when the Red Sox, made a roster move, signing David Ortiz, who had been designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins.

The Red Sox signed the Twins' castoff to a 1-year contract for $1.25 million. The rest.... well it's Red Sox history.

Ortiz, who is 40 and who is retiring after the end of the 2016 season, finished 2015 with 37 home runs and 108 RBI's. He hit .273 and had 144 hits. For his career, Big Papi has hit 503 home runs, driven in 1641 runs and has a career batting average of .284. Ortiz has hit 445 home runs in a Red Sox uniform.
