As the NHL begins play this week it is interesting to note that there are six former UMaine Black Bears on opening night rosters.

That number puts the UMaine program in a tie for third most in the NHL from Hockey East schools. Only Boston College and Boston University have more.

In total, there are 70 players on NHL rosters who played in Hockey East.

Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard has logged the most NHL time. This will be his 12th season of playing in a NHL game.
