And the voters say the 2013 Maine Sports Story of the Year is....the UMaine football team's historic season! Voters picked the last high school basketball tournament at the Bangor Auditorium as the number two story of the year.

The online voting was conducted over the last 10 days. The Maine football story captured 43% of the votes, the last Tourney Week story received 33% of the votes.

The Black Bears had a magical season, winning the CAA championship and finishing with a 10-2 regular season record. The season earned them a #5 seeding for the FCS playoffs and a first ever home playoff game. That game was played at Alfond Stadium in early December with UNH pulling off the win.

Jack Cosgrove and several UM players received several national awards.

The high school basketball tournament was held in February at Bangor Auditorium for the final time. Construction crews had the building torn down in late spring and the new Cross Center opened in the fall with the first tournament week scheduled for February.
