Black Bears Honor #39 Darius Minor

Today was photo day for the 2018 UMaine football team and players made sure #39 was in the picture.

#39 is the jersey number worn by freshman defensive back Darius Minor. During workouts for first year players back on July 24th, the 18-year-old player from Virginia collapsed and died on the UMaine campus just 15 minutes into a supervised workout. Training staff and first responders were unable to resuscitate him.

Cause of death is still being determined.

Minor was 6-foot, 170 pounds from Locust Grove, Virginia. He played for Orange County High School.

UMaine coach Joe Harasymiak says #39 belongs to Darius Minor and no player will wear the number for the next four year.

NOTE: The Black Bears play their season opener on Thursday, August 30th. It's home game vs New Hampshire.
