After some time off, University of Maine winter sports teams get back to work looking to put a tough first half of the season behind them, and start the new year off on the right foot..The hockey team is on the road Friday playing in the Florida College Hockey Classic. The Bears open play against Minnesota-Duluth looking for their first win since November 10th. On Saturday they will play either Cornell or Ferris St.

The UMaine women's basketball team will also return to action Friday for the start of a four-game road trip. Coach Richard Barron's young team has suffered through some growing pains while going 1-9 on the season. The Bears are hoping win number two comes against James Madison Friday.

Ted Woodward's UMaine men had a nice win over Florida Gulf Coast their last time out and will try and carry over the momentum Saturday at Quinnipiac, their final non-conference game before starting America East play against Boston University Jan. 2 at Alfond Arena.
