Gutterson Fieldhouse in Vermont is a tough barn to play in for road teams but the UMaine Black Bears went in to 'The Gutt' and got a 2-1 Friday night overtime win.

Ryan Smith scored the game winner a couple of minutes into the overtime period. It was his fourth goals of the season.

Brendan Robbins got Maine a 1-0 lead early in the first period. The Catamounts tied the game later in the period.

No one scored again until the Smith overtime winner.

Black Bear goalie Jeremy Swayman made 34 saves in net.

UMaine gets back to .500 in Hockey East play at 3-3-1. The Bears are 5-7-1 overall.

NOTE: Game two of the weekend series in Vermont is Saturday at 5pm.
