Xander Bogaerts and Anthony Ranaudo arae headed to the MLB Futures All Star Game in New York next month. Only the top minor league prospects get invited to play in this event which is part of the MLB All Star festivities.

Bogaerts started the season at Hadlock Field in Portland with the double-A Seadogs. Now he's the shortstop at triple-A Pawtucket. He is the Red Sox #1 prospect. As a 16-year-old, Bogaerts played at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor as part of the Senior League World Series team from Aruba.

Anthony Ranaudo leads the Eastern League in ERA (2.28) and is 7-2 with the Seadogs. He is ranked #14 among Sox prospects.

The Futures All Star game is played on Sunday July 14th at the NY Mets home park, Citi Field. The MLB Home Run Derby and All Star Game take place there on Monday and Tuesday, July 15th and 16th.

Other players who have played in this event include Clay Buchholz, Will Middlebrooks and Junichi Tazawa.

* NOTE: Another former SLWS player to compete in this year's Futures Game is Kolten Wong, a second baseman in the St.Louis Cardinals system. Wong played for Hawaii at the world series at Mansfield Stadium.
