It is becoming a trend for the Boston Celtics, build a big first half lead and throw it away in the second half. That was the case in a 101-98 loss in Memphis Sunday.

Boston played like one of the best teams in the league for the first two quarters and held a 21 point lead in the second half. Then they played like the worst team in the league and blew that lead, resulting in their third straight loss and fifth loss in their last 6 games.

The Grizzlies had three players with double-doubles led by Zach Randolph who had 25 points and 13 boards. Marc Gasol and Tony Allen also hit double digits in points and rebounds.

Isaiah Thomas led Boston in the loss with a game high 35 points while Avery Bradley and Amir Johnson each added 14.

Frustration bubbled over late in the game when Marcus Smart drove to the basket and thought he was fouled but no call was made. He then ran down the floor and fouled Mario Chalmers with 35 seconds left reulting in 2 free throws. Jae Crowder and Smart would exchange words on the court before Smart was taken out of the game by coach Brad Stevens. After the game Smart said the two were talking about the play and how it was not the proper play for that situation. Watch his postgame interview below.

The Celtics continue their 3-game road trip in New York against the Knicks on Tuesday.
