Braves Beat Boston [VIDEO]
It is starting to keep track of what number is larger, the amount of runs scored by the Red Sox this season or the number of team meetings. Monday the Sox had 2 runs and 1 team meeting. At the end of the night the meeting seemed to have little impact and they lost the opener of their series to the Atlanta Braves 4-2. The Braves scored three runs in the 4th inning to take a lead they would never give up. To make matters worse a couple former Red Sox players played key roles in the win for Atlanta. Jonny Gomes made a spectacular diving catch in left field on what would have been a sure double. He also scored a run on a base hit by former Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski who had 2 on the night.
Boston's two runs were provided by a Xander Bogaerts solo home run and a Mookie Betts RBI single in the 9th inning. Rick Porcello took the loss after giving up all 4 runs on 5 hits and a wild pitch. As he departed the game he threw his glove into the stands out of frustration.
The team had a meeting before the game with Manager John Farell and came out with an us against the world and media attitude. While the players talked about remaining positive and not listening to the outside voices, Dustin Pedroia sounded anything but positive when talking to reporters before the game.
