Brewer Witches Win Class B North Title

The Brewer High School baseball and softball teams earned wins Wednesday in the Class B North regional finals and will compete for state titles on Saturday.

Pitcher Josiah Cyr led the Brewer baseball team to a 4-2 win over the top-seeded Ellsworth Eagles at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Wednesday night.

The Brewer baseball team will play Wells in the state title game at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Wells defeated Greely 8-3 in the Class B South title game.

Cyr got into some trouble to start the game, walking the leadoff hitter and throwing a pair of wild pitches before giving up an RBI single to Ellsworth center fielder Jared Hamilton.

Cyr settled down after the first inning and ended up going the distance, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while hitting two batters and striking out six.

Brewer's Kaleb Bryant scored on a Kobe Rogerson sacrifice fly in the third. Cyr helped his own cause by adding an RBI single in the same inning.

Witches catcher Andrew Kiley made it a 3-1 game with an RBI triple in the top of the sixth. The next batter, third baseman Levi Williamson, brought home Kiley with a sacrifice fly.

The Brewer softball team remains unbeaten (19-0) after a 6-2 triumph over Oceanside at Coffin Field in Brewer Wednesday afternoon.

The Witches will play Greely in the state championship game at Coffin Field at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Greely defeated Morse 1-0 in the Class B South title game.

Oceanside pitcher Chloe Jones gave up six unearned runs. Brewer scored two unearned runs in the first inning, one in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Libby Hughes of Brewer pitched six scoreless innings before giving up a pair of runs in the seventh.

Oceanside ends its season at 17-3.
