Broncos Cruise Past Witches 72-44 [SCORES]
The Hampden boys are the defending Class A state champions and showed they have no plans of giving up the title after closing the regular season with a 72-44 win over Brewer.The win concludes a perfect regular season for the Broncos with an 18-0 record while Brewer goes to 14-4 and takes the number two spot in the heal point standings.
Hampden got off to a quick start and never looked back as Sophomore Ian McIntyre scored 19 of his game high 21 points in the first half that allowed the Broncos to take a commanding 41-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The second half included more of the same with Hampden leading by as many as 32 points at one time. Senior Nick Gilpin contributed to that effort with a 20 point performance. Nick Chasse was the other player in double digits with 12. Chasse got the start for Brandon McIntyre who missed his third straight game with a micro-fracture in his ankle.
Matt Pushard led Brewer with 12 points despite not making a field goal in the first half.
The Brewer girls locked up a post season spot following a 40-35 win over Hampden. The Witches finish the regular season with an 8-10 record after posting just one win a year ago.
Courtney Pearson and Emily Lord hit key baskets in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Pearson finished with a game high 11 points while Lord had 8.
The 10-8 Broncos got 8 points from Courtney Dunton and Brooklyn Scott and will be the number five seed in the upcoming tournament.
