It's just a pre-season NBA game and it's a mid-day start time. But when Steve Clifford and Brett Brown coach today it will be a NBA first - two Mainers facing each other as head coaches.

Steve Clifford was named Charlotte Bobcats head coach this summer after years of serving as an NBA assistant. Clifford's first coaching job after graduating from UMaine Farmington was boys coach at Woodland HS.

Same thing holds for Brett Brown. He left as an assistant with San Antonio to be head coach of the Philadelphia. He is the son of longtime high school and college coach Bob Brown.

They will play today's pre-season game during the day with 15,000 middle school kids from the Charlotte area coming to the game called "Cool School Field Trip".

Clifford's Bobcats are 2-2 in pre-season. Brown's 76ers are 1-2.
