Boston Bruins tough guy Shawn Thornton will be out of action 7 to 10 days because of a concussion suffered in a first period fight with Buffalo's enforcer John Scott.

Thornton doesn't lose many hockey fights but he lost this one -- big time. The 6-8, 250-pound Scott caught him with several punches to the head before officials broke up the fight. Thornton appeared dazed and wobbly. After serving his 5-minute major penalty Thornton went straight to the dressing room and never returned to the game.

Buffalo won the game 7-4.

Jamie Tardif was called up from the Providence Bruins to take Thornton's roster spot. Tardif is the top scorer for the B's AHL team.

The Bruins play Saturday night in Toronto. 92.9TheTicket has live coverage starting at 7PM.
