CAA Football Adds Stony Brook, UAlbany
UMass Lowell, Stony Brook and UAlbany join new conferences as of this first day of July 2013. UMass Lowell joins America East in 14 sports. SB and Albany join the CAA in football.
The River Hawks join UMaine and other northeast schools in 14 sports starting this fall although they will go through a four year NCAA reclassification from division-3 to division-1. That means UML will not compete in playoffs. The UMass Lowell hockey team already plays D-1 in Hockey East.
Stony Brook and Albany are D-1 schools and join CAA football this fall. In fact, UMaine has played both schools in recent years.
The CAA and America East have added these programs because other schools in the conference bolted to other conferences. The landscape of college conferences has been in a great deal of flux in recent years with schools moving from conference to conference.
