Maybe it was the funky uniforms. Maybe it was an emotionally drained team. More than likely it was just that Hector 'Cabezon' Velazquez didn't have it Friday night. The Red Sox got got whipped by Tampa Bay 10-3.

It was only the 40th loss of the season for the Sox, now 90-40 in this historic march to the playoffs.

Velazquez gave up eight runs on nine hits in 2.2 innings. The Rays had six consecutive singles in the third inning.

Meanawhile, Jalen Beeks came on to pitch in relief for the Rays, pitched 5.1 innings and got credit for the win. He gave up seven hits and three run but it's his second win over the Sox in a week. He was traded to Tamps Bay in late July for Nathan Eovaldi.

The Red Sox hit Tampa pitching all night. The problem was the 13 hits were all singles and not many were strung together.

J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts led the way with three hits each.

The series resumes in Tampa Bay this evening. A 6pm start time. Live coverage on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket.
