The UMaine men's basketball lost to Columbia, 81-73, in the final non-conference game on the schedule but the one bright spot is Aaron Calixte breaking a free throw record that stood for 57 years.

In the second half, Calixte went the free throw line and hit two shots. His 33rd and 34th consecutive free throws made, breaking a record held by former UMaine player and coach Skip Chappelle back in the 1960-61 season.

The streak spans over the last 10 games. Calixte is shooting 93% from the line.

He also led the Black Bears is scoring with 19 but it wasn't enough to beat Columbia.

The Lions had a big run against the Bears to end the first half leading 46-27. Maine finished the game with a late run but not enough.

The Bears fall to 3-12 and begin America East player Wednesday at Stony Brook.

Columbia improves to 2-10.
