In what has been a special season the Red Sox continue to find ways to win. On Wednesday night Boston blew a two run lead in the 8th inning against Tampa Bay forcing extra innings. In the top of the 10th manager John Farrell sent Mike Carp to pinch hit for Jonny Gomes, Carp then hit the first pitch from Roberto Hernandez over the centerfield wall for a grandslam. Koji Uehara pitched a scoreless bottom of the 9th to get the win while Junichi Tazawa closed out the game in the 1oth. The 7-3 win reduces their magic number to clinch the division to 8.
