The National Hockey League awards were handed out in Las Vegas on Wednesday night and Patrick Kane and Braden Holtby took home the top prizes with the Hart and Vezina Trophies respectively.

Former UMaine Black Bear Ben Bishop finished second in the Vezina voting and finished 89 votes behind Holtby for the award.

Boston Bruin Patrice Bergeron lost the Selke Trophy to Anze Kopitar by 149 votes and finished second in that category during the awards.  Loui Eriksson also missed out on the Lady Byng, finishing in third place behind Anze Kopitar.

Bruins Release 2016-17 Schedule

The NHL and the Boston Bruins released the 2016-17 regular season schedules today and the Bs will begin the year on the road against Columbus on October 13th.

The Bruins will begin their home slate of games against the New Jersey Devils on October 20th at the TD Garden for the upcoming season.  Boston has only played New Jersey once in their home opener, dating back to the 2003-4 season.

Other notable games for the Bs include a home match-up with rivals Montreal on October 22 at the TD Garden and a road game with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Penguins on December 14th.  Boston will close out the 2016-17 slate with three home games ending with the Washington Capitals on April 8th.

The Bruins will now turn their attention to the 2016 NHL Entry Draft which will begin on Friday evening from Buffalo, New York.  Boston will make its first selection at 14th overall after failing to improve the team's draft position during the April 30 lottery.

The Boston Bruins can of course be heard live throughout the 2016-17 season on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket starting in October.
