Runs were hard to come by at the season opening twinbill at Kessock Softball Field at UMaine Wednesday afternoon. The Black Bears and UMass Lowell Riverhawks ended with a split of the America East Conference doubleheader.
The Stony Brook Seawolves scored five runs in the first four innings and took the rubber game of the three game weekend series vs UMaine by a 5-2 score.
After playing 26 road games the UMaine baseball team finally got to play at Mahaney Diamond in Orono Saturday afternoon and celebrated by sweeping a conference twinbill over Albany 10-2 and 4-1.

The UMaine softball knew it had to take down UAlbany twice in order to capture the Anerica East Conference title. The Black Bears won the first game, 2-0, but came up short in game two, 6-1.
After a Saturday filled with rain in western New York, UMaine and UAlbany are playing for the American East Conference title and the automatic bid to the NCAAs that comes with that title.

Rain in western New York has pushed the America East Softball Championship to Sunday. That means the UMaine Black Bears and UAlbany Great Danes will start play at 9am today.

The UMaine softball team opened defense of its America East Championship with a 9-1 win over Hartford in day one of the '17 tourney in New York.
