The University of Maine announced Wednesday the appointment of Bob Corkum as interim head coach of the men's hockey team, one day after the firing of longtime coach Tim Whitehead. Corkum, a former captain of the Black Bears and NHL player, had been an assistant under Whitehead for the past four years.

Meanwhile, Whitehead addressed the media for the first time since university officials fired him on Wednesday, citing a decline in the once-storied program.

Newly aquired Jaromir Jagr participated in his first skate with the Bruins Thursday morning and was paired with Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand on the second line.
