Talk about your cinderella stories...The Minneosta-Duluth Bulldogs are NCAA hockey champs after barely getting into the playoff field last month. UMD knocked off Notre Dame last night 2-1 to claim the school's second national title.

Back on March 17th when the Bulldogs lost in their NCHC conference tournament they needed six other conference tournaments to go their way in order to win an at-large bid.

It happened. And, UMD edged out Minnesota for the final spot in the 16-team field by .0001 in the formula used to determine spots.

The Bulldogs finish 25-16-3 and national champs.

NOTE:
Who knew? National champ Minnesota-Duluth played UMaine at Alfond Arena back in late October... The Bulldogs beat the Black Bears 2-0 and 2-1...The weekend series left UMD with a 4-2 record, Maine with a 2-4 record.
