Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez will have surgery on his broken pinkie finger and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, the team announced Monday.

Vazquez broke the finger while sliding into second base during the Red Sox game against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.

He will have a pin inserted into the finger and is expected to undergo the procedure on Tuesday.

Sandy Leon will take over at the catcher position with Blake Swihart getting some work as well.

In 60 games this season, Vazquez is batting .213 with three home runs and 14 RBI.
