The Wells Warriors have lined up against an opponent 27 straight games without a loss. Tonight the Foxcroft Academy Ponies will try to stop the juggernaut from the south.

The Class D State Championship game kicks off at 7pm at Alfond Stadium on the UMaine campus in Orono and Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket has live coverage.

For coach Tim Roche and his Warriors this is a third consecutive trip to the state game. In 2016, Well beat MDI 44-0 to win Class C. Last year, the Warriors moved to Class D and handled Foxcroft 48-0 in the title game.

(11-0) Wells Warriors: Their power running game is led by senior Tyler Bridge, a 6-foot-3, 200 pound back who has rushed for more than 2,100 yards and 37 touchdowns. When it's not Bridge, it's 6-foot-1 junior runner Payton MacKay. The two backs rushed for nearly 400 yards combined vs Oak HIll in the South Region final.

(10-0) Foxcroft Ponies: While Wells gets a lot of attention for its offense, the Ponies are actually scoring more points per game than the Warriors (42 to 41 PPG). And, Foxcorft does it with diversity. Matt Spooner, Michaleb Niles, Hyatt Smith, Jeremy Richard or Logan Martin are all capable of running or catching the ball for scores. Coach Danny White and his Ponies are trying to win a Class D title for the first time since returning to this class. Foxcroft won Class C championships in 2012, 2007, 2003 and 1997.
