Orono High School boys basketball coach Jason Coleman is stepping down after seven years to pursue other coaching opportunities.

Coleman, who's been Red Riots coach for seven years, told his players at the team banquet last night.

His young team finished in 11th place in Class B North this past season and upset #6 Ellsworth before bowing out of the tournament to Presque Isle.

The Riots were 68-58 in regular season play under Coleman. Three of his seven Orono teams played in the regional final game in either Class B or C..

Coleman cannot comment on his future opportunities. He did have high praise for the support from Orono athletic director Mike Archer during his time as Red Riots coach. Coleman told me he believes the roster and culture of the program are in great shape. He called the decision to step down a difficult one but says he is excited for what the future will be for him.
