The Sanford Mainers team of the New England Collegiate Baseball League has added some Maine flavor to its roster. UMaine pitchers Justin Courtney and Jonah Normandeau along with USM pitcher/infielder Jake Dexter will play their summer ball in Sanford.

The NECBL is a 13-team wooden bat league, similar to the well known Cape Cod League. The Sanford team is the northern-most team around the New England region.

Courtney(Bangor HS) and Normandeau(Bridgton Academy) will join Black Bear lefty pitcher Connor Johnson on the team. The players are coming off the playoff run that took UMaine to the America East Conference championship round.

Jake Dexter, who played his high school ball at Messalonskee HS, helped The USM Huskies get to the championship game of the Syracuse NCAA D-III regional.

The Mainers roster includes college players from all over the country, including Vanderbilt, Texas A&M and Louisville.

The Sanford team is coached by Chris Morris, a former coach of Brewer American Legion baseball and former assistant coach at Husson University. The team GM is former UMaine player and assistant coach Aaron Izaryk.

The NECBL season starts next Wednesday, June 7th and the 50 game schedule goes through early August.

The Mainers play their home games at Goodall Park in Sanford.
