Former Bangor HS and current UMaine pitcher Justin Courtney won his New England Collegiate Baseball League debut as the Sanford Mainers beat the Plymouth Pilgrims 3-1.

The NECBL is a summer wooden bat league for college players with nine teams around New England.

Courtney pitched 7.1 innings, giving up just one run and four hits. He struck out five and walked just one. Courtney threw 97 pitches.

The win is the first of the summer for Sanford (1-3). Plymouth lost for the first time (3-1).

Courtney finished his junior year at UMaine last month.
