Orono High School's Jackson Coutts is the 2017 John Winkin Award winner, the Mr. Baseball honor that goes to the state's top senior player.

Coutts, who is headed to the University of Rhode Island to play baseball, was selected for 10 finalists. All were Player of the Year award winners in their conference. Coutts was the Class C PVC Player of the Year.

His Red Riots scored a walk-off 4-3 win over Lisbon in the state championship game last week.

Coutts is the first Orono HS player to with the award in the 26-year history of the Winkin Award. His father, Mike, is UMaine softball coach and a former player for the late coach John Winkin.
