Old Town baseball coach Brad Goody has told his team that there is no 'defending' their Class B state title from a year ago. He says it isn't like wrestling where you bring a belt to the next contest and that his Coyotes have to earn another title.

With that backdrop, Goody's team is off to a good start. A 13-0 victory over the Orono Red Riots in the season opener played at Mahaney Diamond at UMaine.

Senior RHP Ethan Stoddard pitched the first four innings, then Ryan Hoogterp and Brenden Gasaway finished up. They shut out the Red Riots on just four hits.

At the plate, Stoddard had two hits. Nick Swift and Cole Daniel each had three. Jacob Ketch had an inside-the-park home run as the Coyotes banged out 15 hits.

Next on the schedule for Old Town is Caribou on Saturday.

Orono hosts Houlton on Saturday.
