The New York Islanders coaching staff will have a distinctive UMaine flavor this season as former Black Bear coach Greg Cronin and player/coach Bob Corkum have been hired as assistant coaches.Former UMaine player Jack Capuano is the head coach, and his staff already has former Black Brear Mike Dunham as goallie coach. Cronin's addition will mean four of the five coaches have significant ties to the UMaine hockey program.

Cronin spent the last three seasons behind the Toronto Maple Leafs bench before his release at the end of this season. He has worked for the Isles organization previously as an assistant with the team, a stay that lasted five seasons before taking over as the head coach of their AHL club.

Corkum was hired by the club last season after failing to land the UMaine head coaching position to work on the development side of the operation, and will go behind the bench this season.

The General Manager of the Islanders is former UMaine goalie Garth Snow who played on the Bears first national championship team.
